- To encourage the production of top quality beads & beadworks locally
- To promote competent modern design in beads and beadwork
- To facilitate interaction between local artisans/designers and their international counterparts

Participants
Participants came from Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, India, Kuwait, all parts of Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, United Kingdom, USA, Germany, France, Switzerland.
BIBCo 2010 was expected to draw a crowd of 80 – 100. In the event, some 120 took part, predominantly foreign participants followed by a good local representation, individual and institutional, from Sarawak, Sabah and West Malaysia.
The conference sessions were well attended, the interactive sessions with the speakers were highly animated. 10 papers (Conference Journal published with help from Sarawak Museum) were presented in 4 sessions. The concluding dialogue with the speakers, including a ‘show & tell’ session where participants could show their treasures to the experts, was extremely popular.
Exhibition & Sales
An exhibition and sales area accommodated 15 foreign and local vendors. Products ranged from ‘Nonya Beaded Slippers’ to exquisite reproductions of Jatim, Chevron and Venetian Style Beads, as well as books and journals specific to this area of interest.
Vendors did brisk business, averaging an impressive RM3,500.00 each for the 2 days which for some of our local bead ladies was a first-ever experience. This component of BIBCo 2010 drew a large following from the Miri townsfolk.
